Smart AC Tips to Prevent Unexpected Repairs

Unexpected air conditioning repairs can be a major headache. No matter what plans you have, needing to address air conditioning problems can mean that you are left scrambling to reschedule so you can get your air conditioner fixed.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. When you need AC repair in Monroe, GA, give our team a call for help. You can also keep reading to learn our tips for how to operate your air conditioner in a way that reduces the chances of unexpected problems.

Be Proactive

If you want to prevent major repairs, it’s important to be proactive in preventing them in the first place. You can do this in a couple of ways. First, you can schedule professional maintenance for your air conditioner with our team of professionals on an annual basis. This gives us a chance to address any festering problems before they become major issues. Annual maintenance is important whether your AC is brand new or many years old.

Another way you can be proactive is by scheduling service appointments in between regular maintenance when you think that something is going wrong. If you notice your air conditioner making unusual sounds, producing bad odors, or not working as well as it used to, you don’t want to put off service until your next maintenance appointment. Addressing problems early is the best way to prevent repair needs from being too significant.

Use Smart Settings

It’s easy to adjust your thermostat down low and hope that it can get your home nice and cool. Although that is exactly what your air conditioner was designed to do, it can realistically only lower the indoor temperature to about 20° lower than what the temperature is outside. Ideally, you want to set the temperature on your thermostat to 78° for cooling.

This may seem too warm for you, but it is the recommended thermostat setting by the US Department of Energy. Using this setting can reduce repairs that your air conditioner faces by reducing strain on your unit. If you currently set your thermostat significantly lower than that, we encourage you to adjust the setting up a single degree at a time over several weeks or even months until you get used to the newer setting.

Keep Up With Maintenance

As a homeowner, the care that you show your air conditioner on a monthly basis goes a long way toward reducing strain and helping you our air conditioner have a longer lifespan. The steps that you can complete are as simple as changing out the air filter on time and rinsing out the condensate drain line with a little bit of vinegar each month.

You can also hose down the outdoor unit to eliminate dirt buildup. The steps might take a total of 10 minutes to complete on a monthly basis, yet they can add years of life to your air conditioner. If we have any other recommendations for ways you can care for your AC, we’ll talk to you during a maintenance service appointment.
