Having pets is wonderful, but it means that you need to take extra precautions around your HVAC system. These steps are important to protect your pets from being in harm’s way and your air conditioner or heater from being damaged.

When you need service for your HVAC in Conyers, GA, give our team a call to schedule your service. We can help address any maintenance or repair needs in addition to talking to you about ways to keep your pets away from your HVAC system. Keep reading to learn more about precautions that are necessary for your HVAC system when you have pets inside or outside of your home.

Create Boundaries

When it comes to the indoor unit for your HVAC system, you want to make sure that it is secure. Most of the time indoor units are located inside of a closet or separate room. You want to make sure that the door is secure when you close it so that pets cannot get inside accidentally.

The same goes for your outdoor unit. If you have pets that go outside, it may be a good idea to put a low fence around your outdoor unit to keep pets away. Keep in mind that you want to maintain at least three feet of space around your entire unit if you do decide to put up some type of barrier.

If you don’t have room for a fence or barrier, it’s a good idea to monitor pets while they are outside so that you can make sure they stay away from the HVAC system. If they chew on wires or other components, they could get hurt very easily.

Even without pets it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your outdoor unit. There are pests and rodents around your home that can damage your HVAC system. Plan to inspect your outdoor unit once a month at a minimum for any signs of damage and give us a call if you have any concerns.

Seal Vents and Ductwork

When you have pets it’s important to make sure all aspects of your HVAC system are secure, including the ductwork and vents. This is especially important if the ducts are located along the floor where pets can reach them easily. While it isn’t common, pets can climb inside of loose vents and ductwork.

This puts your pets in danger but it also poses a lot of risks for your HVAC system. Damaged ductwork can be expensive to repair or replace, as can any other components inside of your air conditioner. If you have concerns about elements that are exposed, give our team a call. We can complete and inspection and then
